Stepping Up

Karate returns to KarateMonkey again. 2013 might see a few Karate Posts on my blog.

Ever wonder what happens on the other side of the Port Mann? There is Karate there. Good Karate. After 30 mins of fitness training from sensei sharp then some awesome kumite training from Sensei Paul(Kelowna Paul). I was pooped after the first hour. Another hour to go and I was pretty glad I wasn't grading.

These 3 poor friends tho......hahahahahaha

The pictures are blurry. But thats because of the speedy crisp movements of the graders, not because im to cheap to go out and by a decent camera(or too lazy to learn how to use the one I have.)

Brett, Issy and Jen were called to the carpet today. All passed.

After was a fun trp to Earls with the Eaton clan and Jen. Good times after, well earned by my classmates. Grats guys!

Solo Ride

Update to the trail conditions from last week. The road is progressing nicely. I'm guessing 2 more weeks before 7th is approachable. The corner of the 5th is still covered, but not as deep.

This was as far as I could get up. Sensei Joe put us through our paces Saturday morning. No exploratory for me.  I just pulled off on Crinkum Crankum for my ride.

No action shots. Just more pics of the sun poking through the trees in the fog.

Hulk Hogan

Pretty sure this will be taken down tomorrow.

Ride Report : Feb 9, 2013

After a quick lap on Neds, I hooked up with Ian for an exploratory of Fromme. Even though reports on NSMB ended up being fairly accurate, we wanted to see it for ourselves. Our hope was to get to 7th, but after rounding the 5th we let that ambition slide.

We chose Espresso as our lap of the day. The first 3rd of the trail is in dire shape as you'll soon see.

Pics and captions are below for anyone planning rides this weekend.

A bit of snow at the 3rd, but it clears up after.
Looking back from the 4th

As advertised, the clearing at 5th.

After the 5th, this is typical for the way up.

We didn't think our ride choice would get any better the further up the road we went. So we took Espresso down. I kinda wish we'd gone back to Pipeline. Not because of the ride, just because of how much damage we saw on the trail.
The Ladder Entrance to Espresso
The beginning was a bad enough sign.

Ian pushing through some blow down.

This was really hard to see. Digger and the NSMB crew had worked hard on sections of Espresso. Much of there work is covered in logs.

This is the skinny that lines up the rock face. Sometimes I felt like I had walked into a Monica Craver dream.

The day wasn't all bad. Ian and I started getting some flow after the first 3rd and had a pretty good time. The parts of the trail that we did ride were actually in great condition.

But if you heading to Fromme on Sunday, Ladies or Pipeline might be the better choice.

Picking up where we left off.....

After a lap on Pangor yesterday, I decided to drag Nic out for a lap on Neds.  There was snow at the mushroom lot. A few downed trees, rock clusters with stream flowing over them and other evidence of winter.
Other than that, its business as usual on Seymour.
I'm so glad January is over.......
